How to Select A Wedding Videographer

When selecting a videographer, it is important to know a few things before you sign a contract. You should know what type of equipment will be used, what format the video will be in, what is covered and what is not covered, how the DVD will be set up, how the audio will be captured, how many cameras will be used, and how they plan to edit your finished product. This seems like a lot to know up front, but you will soon see how important asking the right questions can be.First, what equipment will be used? Standard video recorders simply won’t do the trick. Your videographer should have professional equipment which will include a high quality camera, steady tripods, lighting if requested, backup batteries, and enough data storage to cover more than the event will require. If the equipment is not professional, then the finished product won’t be professional. The important thing to note here is the camera that will be used. A good camera usually preceeds other good equipment. It is also important to know what format the video will be shot in. You want to see something like Hi8, MiniDV, DV, or even digitally on a hard drive or other mobile storage device. The format will greatly affect the video quality, and the quality of any copies that are made, so keep that in mind. Here again, a good camera will only allow the best format to maintain the integrity of the camera. Almost as important as the camera and the format is how good the videographer is. Be sure to look at samples to see how steady the footage is, how well things are centered, what is captured and highlighted, and what the overall impression is. A good videographer will be able to pan and zoom smoothly and seamlessly, and can avoid any sudden movements. Its also nice to see samples where they are at “just the right place at just the right time” to catch a magical moment. You will know it when you see it, and it means the videographer was focused and anticipating getting a great shot.It is important to know how much footage and of what events is going to be covered up front. This will Learn Arabic eliminate any frustrations the day of the event. Be sure to look through the contract to see that everything you expect to be done will be done. It will be too late to fix something on the day of the wedding, so spend the extra time and talk about each part of the wedding from the rehearsal dinner until you are driving off into the sunset. Make note of schedules, who, what, when, where, and why. Your videographer should also have access to the coordinator and use them as the resource and leave you and your spouse-to-be alone during the event. They are there to capture your moments, not create them. When setting up what is covered, be sure to find out how many cameras will be used and the pros and cons of one or multiple angles. Also be sure to ask exactly when there will be two and when there will be only one. This will make sure that you have the right expectations and aren’t disappointed with some shots that are filmed from one perspective. How many cameras will also determine how the sound will be picked up. Make sure that if microphones are uses, you can patch into the sound board and get the clean audio, or at least have camera microphones set up close enough to the action to get the clear sound. Video is just one part of the DVD. The sound will complete it or ruin it depending on how it is captured. It is also good to get an idea of what you want the finished product to look like. View the available samples and pick out what works for you. If you don’t find what you want, try to be as clear as possible in your expectations and desires up front and see what the video editor can and can’t do. This is the part that makes the video fun to watch. A well edited video will capture attention, have a full and smooth flow, and get all the right shots of the important parts of the wedding. With this information, you can at least start to ask the right questions and begin to understand what you should expect from a professional videographer.
